New Delhi (India), 9th May 2023: Shubhman Gill, a right-handed opening batsman who is currently playing for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League, will voice Spider-Man in Hindi and Punjabi in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Taran Adarsh, a film critic and trade expert, shared the news from his Twitter handle on Monday.
Taran wrote, “CRICKETER SHUBMAN GILL IS VOICE OF ‘SPIDER-MAN’ IN INDIA… #Indian cricketer #ShubmanGill has lent his voice for #SpiderMan [will be called Pavitr Prabhakar in #India]… Yes, the young cricketer has dubbed for the #Hindi and #Punjabi versions of #SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse”
Adarsh also mentioned that Shubhman is the first sports celebrity to become the voice to a Hollywood film. Shubhman will play Pavitra Prabhakar, the multiverse’s Indian Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be published on June 2, 2023 in ten languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Teugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, and Bengali, by Sony Pictures Entertainment India.
Shubman will lend his voice for the Hindi and Punjabi versions of the film. After the news broke out Shubman also took to Instagram on Monday morning to express his excitement over the project.
He wrote on Instagram, “Thrilled to give my voice for the Indian Spider-Man, Pavitr Prabhakar in Spider-Man: Across the #SpiderVerse. Trailer dropping soon! Get ready for some web-slinging action.”
Shony Panjikaran, General Manager and Head of Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) India, also shared the news and wrote, “June 2 will indeed be a momentous occasion for all Spider-Man fans across the country, and we are sure that everyone will shower the same love on this film as they did on ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.”
Congratulating Shubman he further wrote, “We are so excited to collaborate with Shubman Gill, as he’s not only a youth icon but also a true hero, having represented our country so well in international cricket.”
