Ahmedabad, 10th June 2023: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has now approached the Gujarat High Court is appealing its recent ruling overturning the Central Information Commission’s directive to Gujarat University to release information on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree to the AAP national convener.

Kejriwal’s main point is that, contrary to Gujarat University’s claim that Modi’s degree is available online, no such degree is available on the university’s website. Following a brief hearing on Friday, Justice Biren Vaishnav granted Kejriwal’s review plea and adjourned it till June 30.

The Gujarat University, the Central Government, and former Chief Information Commissioner M Sridhar Acharyulu were all granted rules by the HC. In March, Justice Vaishnav granted Gujarat University’s appeal against the CIC judgement and slapped a 25,000 fine on Kejriwal.

The Gujarat University had then objected to the CIC’s order saying “irresponsible childish curiosity” of someone cannot become public interest under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, and added that the information about the PM’s degree was already in public domain and that the university had placed the information on its website on a particular date in the past.
