Lucknow, 24th June 2023: The Uttar Pradesh Board will teach its students about the lives and times of 50 famous Indian leaders. The Board has included biographies of 50 famous persons, like Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay, and others, in its syllabus. However, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has been omitted.
Gulab Devi, the secondary education minister (independent charge), defended the decision to exclude Nehru, saying, “Nehru ne desh ke liye apne prano ki aahuti nahi di thi (Nehru had not made the supreme sacrifice for the country).” As a result, she claimed, Nehru was left off the list of 50 biographies of great men.
Biographies of Mahavir Swami, Bharat Ratna Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Sarojini Naidu and Nana Saheb will also be taught to students.
In their Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra for the 2022 Legislative Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party committed to including the life tales of great individuals and liberation fighters in the educational curriculum.
The UP Board had been doing the exercise for quite some time. Finally, an agreement was made on the names of the great men, according to an official who did not want to be recognised.
