New Delhi, 01st July 2023: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, a senior BJP leader and former Union minister, called the Congress and other opposition parties to “listen to their conscience” and avoid communal politics on Saturday.

Naqvi alleges that the nation’s mood is to rescue the Uniform Civil Code from the “clutches of communal conspirators” who have kept it hostage for the previous seven decades for their narrow-minded self-interests.

The BJP leader slammed the opposition parties, saying, “Listening to conscience is the only appropriate response to communal politics over a progressive law like the Uniform Civil Code that will ensure equality and justice for all. The Opposition parties should listen to their conscience to restrain the Congress’ communal uncertainty and inconsistency on UCC,” he said.

The argument over a Uniform Civil Code was resurrected after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong push for it, questioning how the country could function with separate laws governing personal matters and accusing the Opposition of using the UCC issue to “mislead and provoke” the Muslim population.

For a long time, the BJP’s major election platform has been repealing Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
