Sponsored by GOI-DST, Galgotias University organizes TEDP focused on Bio-Entrepreneurship

The Institute’s Innovation Council, School of Biomedical Sciences and School of Business, Galgotias University is organizing a Technology-based Entrepreneurship Development Program (TEDP) focused on Bio-Entrepreneurship sponsored by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India from 05 July to 28 July 2023.

This TEDP program will run from 05 July to 28 July 2023. TEDP consists of 7 modules including Entrepreneurship and Support Plans, Project Selection and its Pre-viability, Developing Soft Skills and Business Idea Consolidation, Motivational Sessions of Successful Innovators and Entrepreneurs, Business Plan Preparation, Management Inputs and Bio-Entrepreneurship Technical training included. In this, 35 eminent speakers will deliver lectures on more than 40 topics and encourage them to adopt bio-entrepreneurship as a career.

Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Shukla, Director General, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad graced the inauguration ceremony as Chief Guest.

The inauguration ceremony started with Saraswati Vandana and lamp lighting. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) K. Mallikarjuna Babu, Advisor to the Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Renu Luthra, Dr. Rajendra Singh, Research Advisor, Prof. (Dr.) Seema Gupta, Dean, School of Business; Professor (Dr.) Ranjana Patnaik, Dean, School of Biomedical Sciences, Prof. Anamika Pandey, Associate Dean, School of Business, Dr. Sumedha Mukherjee, Event Coordinator and Dr. Gaurav Kumar In-Charge, Institute’s Innovation Council, Galgotias University were present in the inaugural ceremony.

Dr. Anamika Pandey, Associate Dean, School of Business, started the session with the preamble and stated the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in a post-covid era.

The topic was further explored by Prof. (Dr.) Renu Luthra, who in her inaugural speech stated the necessity of inculcating entrepreneurial values in students and providing an atmosphere to promote novel innovations and ideas. She also said that Entrepreneurship alone is not sufficient to make acceleration of development. Hence technological entrepreneurship which exploits both scientific and technological knowledge, to meet the market need, is important.

Dr. Gaurav Kumar, in-charge IIC, took the stage and explained the necessity of the workshop. He mentioned that Galgotias University has been already promoting its students and faculties alike to come up with novel ideas and is providing the possibility of incubating the promising start-ups in GIC-RISE. He also mentioned that such workshops are required to widely spread the intent of innovation, the notion of novelty and a credence of entrepreneurial culture.

Dr. Seema Gupta, in her speech spoke in the same lines as Dr. Kumar, and asserted that innovative ideas are need of the hour and solutions should be directed towards the “pain-point” of a problem. She also emphasised that 53% of new start-ups are non-technical, and thus encouraged the participants from non-technical fields to have faith in their originality. Dr. Ranjana Patnaik stated that the emerging techniques in biotechnology and biomedical sciences offer an immense tapping potential to start new ventures to resolve real world problems.

The Chief Guest of the session, Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Shukla, Director General, Entrepreneurial Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad praised the achievements of Galgotias University in innovation and congratulated the University for being ranked among top 50 universities in India in the NIRF-Innovation Ranking 2023, declared by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. He also mentioned that Galgotias University is performing a commendable job in advancing the entrepreneurship environment in an inter-institutional domain.

Vice-chancellor of Galgotias University, Dr. K. Mallikharjuna Babu, applauded the organizers for their effort in putting up a wonderful schedule for the 4-weeks workshop and affirmed that the University in future will keep on organizing such events to train and motivate the future innovators and entrepreneurs. He explained to the participants that the focus of such events is to stimulate the inner innovator of each participant and the sessions of this program will train them to venture on their own entrepreneurship journey. The inaugural session was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Sumedha Mukherjee.

The inaugural session was followed closely by the technical sessions of focussed on the Module 1 of the workshop “Entrepreneurship & Schemes of Assistance”. Day-1 of the first module comprised of two speaker sessions. The first speaker of the day was Niraj Srivastava, Founder & CEO at Young Skilled India, who educated the participants on the topic of “Entrepreneurship and Innovation as Career Opportunity”. Srivastava made the session highly interactive and the participants were able to freely discuss with the keynote speaker about various aspects of an entrepreneurial journey.

The second session of the Module 1 was conducted by Suman Gupta, Chief Operations Officer at BBB, Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Govt. of India. Gupta delivered her lecture on “Essentials of Bio-entrepreneurship and supporting ecosystem” and informed the participants about the different funding opportunities and schemes of Government of India, pertaining to Biotechnology and Biomedical research, which can support their innovations and nurture the growth of start-ups in Biotechnology sector. She also addressed several gaps between academia-industry translations, that can be interesting challenges for a young innovator to resolve.

The day 1 of Module-1 ended with discussion of participants with IIC in-charge of Galgotias University, Dr. Gaurav Kumar regarding the sessions. The workshop will continue for 28 days for till 28th July. 40 different speakers will be interacting with the participants from all over India and encourage them to take up bio-entrepreneurship as a career.
