Terror Plot Thwarted: Punjab Police Nabs 5 Operatives in Special Operation

New Delhi, August 15, 2023: In a significant development, Punjab Police, in collaboration with a central security agency, apprehended five operatives in a special operation, thwarting a terror plot backed by Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda and Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Goldy Brar.

The joint operation led to the arrest of the suspects a day before Independence Day. This marks the second successful dismantling of a terror module by Punjab Police within a span of two days.

Authorities recovered two foreign-made pistols, a magazine, and 10 live cartridges from the apprehended individuals, underscoring the gravity of the situation. The module’s sinister intention of destabilizing the peace and harmony of Punjab was foiled, as the operatives were allegedly planning target killings within the state.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav praised the police force’s efforts, highlighting their role in safeguarding the state’s security. He revealed that preliminary investigations unveiled that apart from receiving weapons from across the border, the accused were receiving financial assistance from the United States (US). The swift action by law enforcement has put a halt to their plans and ensured the safety of the region.

The Special Operations Cell (SSOC) registered a case under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against the arrested individuals. While the names of the detained operatives remain undisclosed at this point, the successful operation has undoubtedly dealt a blow to the terrorist network’s activities.
