AIU at 100: Prof. Vinay Kumar Pathak Celebrates Legacy, Dr. Pankaj Mittal Highlights India’s Emergence as a Global Education Hub

Noida, (23 June 2025): A significant academic milestone was commemorated today at Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida, with the inauguration of the 99th Annual General Body Meeting and National Conference of Vice Chancellors by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The theme of this year’s conference, “Envisioning Future Higher Education: The Pivotal Role of India”, reflects the nation’s growing stature in the global academic landscape.

Delivering the address, Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Kumar Pathak, President of AIU, remarked: “We are gathered here to celebrate the centenary of AIU—a legacy that has grown into a vibrant network of 1,086 member universities. Over the next two days, the conference will host a series of enriching sessions, including a special address by the Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar.”

Prof. Pathak emphasized the importance of active engagement with the thematic sessions, which are designed to deliberate on the future trajectory of Indian higher education and its integration with global standards.

Welcoming academic leaders from across the country, Dr. (Mrs.) Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General of AIU, stated: “It is a privilege to host Vice Chancellors from every part of India, a nation that today stands as the world’s fourth-largest economy. The international academic community is increasingly looking toward India for leadership in higher education.”

Elaborating on the conference’s vision, Dr. Mittal further added: “This is precisely why the theme ‘The Pivotal Role of India’ has been chosen. As global eyes turn to India, we must rise to the responsibility of shaping the future of education.”

She also announced a series of plenary and parallel sessions, which will take place across both days of the conference, focusing on forward-looking and transformational themes, including:

Plenary Session II: Envisioning Future Higher Education: The Pivotal Role of India

The conference is being attended by over 220 Vice Chancellors, academic administrators, and international delegates, and will conclude with a session graced by the Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar.
