GREATER NOIDA News (23/11/2025): In a landmark achievement for India’s medical innovation ecosystem, the Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI) at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, has enabled a startup incubated within its government hospital–based innovation facility to raise USD 2 million (approximately ₹16.6 crore) in seed funding. The funding round was led by Bluehill.VC, alongside a prestigious Design-Linked Incentive (DLI) Grant awarded by the Government of India.

CMI–GIMS is the first government hospital–based medical incubator in Uttar Pradesh, operating as a State Government Section 8 company under the Department of Medical Education. The milestone positions Uttar Pradesh as an emerging leader in India’s rapidly expanding MedTech innovation landscape.

A Model Once Considered Impossible

The idea of establishing a medical startup incubator within a public hospital was long believed to be unfeasible due to complex clinical processes and regulatory constraints. Unlike technology-focused incubators housed in engineering institutions, a hospital-based incubation structure required a completely new operational model.

CMI–GIMS successfully built this foundation from the ground up, creating a first-of-its-kind ecosystem featuring:

Clinical Startup OPD clinics

Real-world clinical immersion programs

Structured clinical mentorship systems

Validation pathways for medical devices and medical AI solutions

A transformative innovation culture driven directly from a government hospital

With strong backing from the Government of Uttar Pradesh, this initiative is now being seen as a nationally replicable model for driving healthcare innovation from within public systems. The incubated startup, Sophrosyne Technologies, is developing indigenous medical-grade semiconductor chipsets for next-generation wearable health devices and clinical equipment—an area currently dominated by imports.

The company has been founded by: Dr. Manish Srivastava, PhD in Biosensors, University College Cork, Ireland, and holder of several international patents and Jatin Gupta, a business strategist with more than 15 years of global industry experience

Sophrosyne is developing advanced ultra-low-power health monitoring chipsets featuring: Multi-vital biosensing technology, Intelligent energy management systems, Proprietary artificial intelligence for real-time health risk prediction.

The startup is also working on energy-harvesting solutions to power the next generation of invasive and non-invasive medical devices. The innovation has attracted strong interest from leading device manufacturers in India and the United Kingdom, establishing global visibility early in its journey.

The founders acknowledged the role of the incubator in accelerating their progress, stating:The ecosystem at GIMS has provided unparalleled clinical insights and real-world validation support. This hospital-driven innovation hub has significantly strengthened our mission and contributed meaningfully to the Make in India vision. They extended gratitude to Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Director, GIMS, and Dr. Rahul Singh, CEO of the GIMS Incubation Centre, for their guidance and mentorship.

CMI–GIMS currently supports: 40+ active startups, India’s first OPD-based Startup Clinics, Collaboration networks including Stanford Biodesign, IIT Kanpur, IIT Mandi, IIITs, and national incubation accelerators

The initiative is reshaping India’s approach to MedTech entrepreneurship, regulatory readiness, device validation, and clinical research innovation. This milestone is not just about funding — it is a demonstration that public hospitals can become high-impact engines of innovation. What once seemed impossible has now become a national model, Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI), GIMS

The Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI) is the official innovation and startup incubation arm of GIMS, Greater Noida. Registered as a State Government Section 8 company under the Department of Medical Education, it provides: Clinical mentoring and regulatory support, Medical device validation and clinical trials, Startup OPD clinics and problem banks, Training and innovation development inside public hospital systems. As Uttar Pradesh’s first public hospital–based medical incubator, CMI–GIMS is rapidly emerging as a national benchmark for MedTech innovation.
