GL Bajaj Institute Selected as Nodal Centre for Smart India Hackathon 2025; 26 Teams to Work on Ministry of Social Justice Projects

Greater Noida News (06 December 2025): The Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have formally announced the 8th edition of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025, one of India’s largest national innovation programmes. The grand finale will be held from 8–12 December 2025 across 60 nodal centres in the country.
The GL Bajaj Institute of Technology & Management (GLBITM), Greater Noida, has been selected once again as a prestigious Nodal Centre for the Hardware Edition of SIH 2025.

Record-Breaking National Participation

Smart India Hackhathon 2025 has registered exceptional participation from students across India, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to Viksit Bharat @2047 through technology-driven innovation.

GLBITM will host 26 finalist teams working on five hardware problem statements submitted by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. These teams represent nine Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Puducherry.

A total of 156 students and 20 mentors—nearly 180 participants—will stay on campus for five days to develop real-world hardware solutions. The government will sponsor the complete project cost for each team. Each problem statement carries a winning prize of ₹1.5 lakh. The problem statements for this centre revolve around disability support, assistive technologies, artificial limbs, sign language communication, and devices aimed at improving the quality of life for differently-abled individuals.

The local inauguration will take place at 8 AM on 8 December and The national inauguration will begin at 9 AM. Students will also receive a virtual address from the Prime Minister, who will interact with participants about their innovative solutions

The chief guest for the inauguration is Dr. Amitava Sen Gupta, former senior scientist at ISRO, known for his major research contributions and for being among the select 100 Indian scientists who have travelled to Antarctica.
The guest of honour will be P.V.S. Prakash from Wipro. GL Bajaj students have voluntarily offered their hostel rooms to accommodate visiting teams, reflecting the institute’s tradition of hospitality and student engagement.

Dr. Preeti Bajaj: “Students Are Now Partners in Governance”

Speaking to Ten News Network, Prof. (Dr.) Preeti Bajaj, Director of GLBITM, expressed immense pride in hosting one of the nation’s leading innovation events.
She said that, the biggest challenge today is cultivating strong problem-solving skills among students. When young innovators work directly on challenges given by ministries and government bodies, they become active contributors to the country’s governance and development journey toward Viksit Bharat.

Our institute has been honoured to host the Software Edition every year and for the past three years, we have also been selected for the Hardware Edition. This year, we have been entrusted with five problem statements from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. A total of 26 teams from nine states are coming to our campus, comprising 156 students and 20 mentors.

She added, These young innovators will work day and night for five days to build prototypes related to disability solutions—such as artificial limbs, sign language technology and assistive devices—focused on improving quality of life. The government will fully sponsor the hardware development cost, and each problem statement carries a prize of ₹1.5 lakh for the winning team and We are delighted to host eminent personalities including Dr. Amitava Sen Gupta as Chief Guest and P.V.S. Prakash as Guest of Honour. The Prime Minister will also address will be a moment of great encouragement for the students.

Further she added that, For us, SIH is not just an event—it is a signature program that reflects our institution’s commitment to innovation. Our students have even offered their own hostel rooms for visiting teams, embodying our culture of collaboration and service.
