Two Young Lives Saved: Yatharth Hospital Performs High-Risk Pediatric Heart Surgeries in Greater Noida

Greater Noida News (19/12/2025): Yatharth Super Specialty Hospital, Greater Noida, on Friday highlighted two complex and life-saving pediatric cardiac surgeries—one performed on a 20-day-old newborn and the other on a seven-year-old child—underscoring how timely medical intervention, coordinated teamwork, and difficult clinical decisions can dramatically alter outcomes in critical heart conditions.
The hospital shared detailed clinical insights during a press conference held at its Greater Noida campus, attended by senior doctors, hospital leadership, caregivers, and members of the media. The interaction focused on the medical challenges, decision-making processes, and emotional journeys behind these high-risk pediatric cases, reflecting the deeply human side of advanced healthcare.
The briefing was addressed by Dr. Viresh Mahajan, Chairman, Pediatric Cardiac Sciences; Dr. Ved Prakash, Director and Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS)
Critical Surgery on a 20-Day-Old Newborn
The first case involved a male newborn, weighing less than three kilograms, who was brought to the hospital within days of birth with severe respiratory distress and bluish discoloration of the skin. After urgent evaluation, the child was diagnosed with D-Transposition of the Great Arteries (D-TGA)—a life-threatening congenital heart defect in which the major arteries are abnormally connected, severely limiting oxygen supply to the body.
Explaining the urgency, Dr. Viresh Mahajan said that such cases leave little margin for delay. Without prompt surgical correction, survival chances are extremely low. Following detailed counselling and high-risk consent from the family, the pediatric cardiac team performed an arterial switch operation, one of the most complex neonatal heart surgeries.
Post-operatively, the newborn required ventilator support and intensive monitoring due to lung congestion and respiratory complications. With continuous respiratory therapy, medication support, and careful oxygen weaning, the infant gradually stabilized. Over the following days, cardiac function and oxygen levels remained steady, feeding improved, and the baby was eventually discharged in a stable condition, breathing room air.
Planned Intervention for a Seven-Year-Old Child
The second case involved a seven-year-old child suffering from a cyanotic congenital heart disease with single ventricle physiology. The child had previously undergone a palliative procedure but began showing increasing fatigue and worsening cyanosis, signaling the need for further surgical correction.
Dr. Ved Prakash explained that children with single ventricle heart conditions often require staged surgeries as they grow. Changes in circulation over time make subsequent interventions essential for long-term stability and improved quality of life.
After comprehensive evaluation and advanced cardiac imaging, the surgical team planned and successfully carried out the next critical procedure. The surgery required general anesthesia, blood product support, and close post-operative monitoring. The child responded well, was extubated early, and oxygen support was withdrawn within a short period. Follow-up assessments showed stable cardiac function and satisfactory oxygen levels. The child was discharged active, feeding well, and maintaining normal oxygen levels on room air.

Commitment Beyond Surgery
Addressing the Ten News Network, Dr. Viresh Mahajan emphasized that pediatric cardiac care is a race against time. He noted that when critically ill newborns arrive with dangerously low oxygen levels, decisions are made in minutes, not days, relying entirely on teamwork and preparedness. He also highlighted the role of charitable foundations such as Hans Foundation, JNSS Foundation, and Have a Heart Foundation, which support surgeries for children from economically weaker families, often fully or partially sponsoring treatment.
Dr. Ved Prakash added that pediatric cardiac surgery demands both technical precision and timely execution. He stated that Yatharth Super Specialty Hospital is among the few centers in Uttar Pradesh offering exclusive pediatric cardiac surgical services and encouraged families to seek timely medical attention for children with heart-related problems.
Dr. Sunil Kumar Baliyan, COO and Facility Director, said the success of these cases reflected not just clinical expertise but also robust infrastructure, round-the-clock preparedness, and seamless coordination among doctors, nurses, and support staff.
Mr. Amit Singh, CEO of Yatharth Group, reiterated the hospital’s commitment to strengthening advanced pediatric cardiac services so that families in NCR and neighboring regions do not need to travel far for critical, life-saving care.
The parents of both children, visibly emotional, expressed deep gratitude to the medical team. One parent shared that despite initial fear and confusion, repeated explanations from doctors helped them gain confidence during the most difficult days of their lives. Another parent said the hospital became a second home during treatment, where care felt constant, compassionate, and sincere.
These two cases stand as powerful reminders that when advanced medical expertise meets timely intervention and human compassion, even the most fragile lives can be given a second chance.
