Vijay Diwas Commemorated with Solemn Tributes; Silent Grief Visible in the Eyes of Martyrs’ Families

NOIDA News (20/12/2025): Shaheed Smarak Sanstha observed its 24th Vijay Diwas on Saturday, December 20, 2025, in an atmosphere marked by military dignity and deep emotion. The commemorative ceremony, held at 10:00 a.m., brought together senior military leadership, veterans, families of fallen soldiers and citizens to pay homage to those who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

The wreath-laying ceremony was led by the Chief Guest, Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, SYSM, AVSM, VSM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command, Indian Air Force. He was followed by Major General Jayachandran CJ, ADGE (Pers), Engineer-in-Chief’s Branch, representing the Indian Army, and Rear Admiral Iftekhar Aalam, NM, ADG, Warship Design Bureau, on behalf of the Indian Navy. Former Chief of the Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), also laid a wreath, marking the first occasion on which a former Army Chief formally participated in the Vijay Diwas ceremony organised by the Sanstha.

A particularly moving segment of the event was the participation of the families of 30 martyrs, who came forward one by one to offer floral tributes. Their quiet composure and tear-filled eyes reflected both pride and profound loss. Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the “Unknown Soldiers” by Air Vice Marshal P. Mohan, VM(G). The Chairman of the Sanstha, Lieutenant General G.L. Bakshi, PVSM (Retd), senior retired officers, DCP Yamuna Prasad, representatives of Arun Vihar and Jalvayu Vihar, institutional supporters, schoolchildren from Army Public School, and members of the public joined in paying their respects.

Earlier, the Chief Guest was received by Lieutenant General Y.P. Khurana, PVSM (Retd), Ceremonial Head of the Sanstha, and Lieutenant General R.C. Chadha, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Executive Director, along with members of the Executive Committee. The ceremonial proceedings were conducted by a Tri-Service Guard and buglers under the leadership of Sergeant S.S. Dhami, whose precision and discipline drew appreciation from the gathering.

Addressing the audience, the Chairman expressed gratitude to the three Service Headquarters, Delhi Area, Signal Regiment, Noida Authority, Noida Police, Army Public School, and the leadership of Arun Vihar and Jalvayu Vihar for their logistical and financial support. He also acknowledged the media for its continued role in highlighting the sacrifices of the armed forces.

Following the release of the “Glimpses of Events” booklet, Air Marshal Mishra commended the high standards and solemn conduct of the ceremony. Paying tribute to the fallen, he said the nation salutes the indomitable spirit of its martyrs and remains committed to supporting veterans and their families. Quoting the phrase “Freedom is not free,” he underlined that the liberties enjoyed by citizens are secured through the ultimate sacrifices of the nation’s warriors.

The ceremony concluded with an interaction over tea, during which the Indian Air Force Band, led by Junior Warrant Officer P.K. Choudhary, performed stirring martial tunes that were warmly applauded by those present. The event was smoothly anchored by Mrs. Suniti and Colonel Sanjay Kharbanda (Retd).

Speaking to the media, Commander Narinder Mahajan, Director (Public Relations and Media) of Shaheed Smarak Sanstha, announced that the organisation’s Annual Day will be observed in the last week of February 2026, during which the “Smarak 2026” souvenir will be released by the Chief of the Naval Staff.
