IILM University Hosts 108th IEA International Conference on India’s Roadmap to Viksit Bharat @2047

Greater Noida News (23 December 2025): The 108th Annual International Conference of the Indian Economic Association (IEA), hosted by IILM University, Greater Noida, concluded on Tuesday after three days of wide-ranging and intensive academic deliberations on the theme “India’s Approach to Viksit Bharat @2047: Perspective of Emerging Global Complexities and Realities.” The conference brought together leading economists, policymakers, academicians, researchers and students from India and abroad to deliberate on India’s long-term development priorities in a rapidly changing global environment.

The valedictory session was graced by Shiv Pratap Shukla, Governor, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, the Governor underlined the importance of academic platforms such as the IEA conference in shaping informed public policy. He noted that meaningful dialogue and informed debate are essential for developing a global perspective on India’s economic policies. Highlighting the growing role of the digital economy, start-up ecosystem and investment-led growth, he expressed confidence that India is well positioned to emerge as the world’s third-largest economy in the coming years. He reiterated the inclusive development vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.”

A major highlight of the conference was the conferment of the Lifetime Achievement Award on Dr. Kanta Prasad, in recognition of his outstanding and enduring contributions to economic research, teaching and policy discourse.

The national importance of the conference was further underscored by the presence of Surya Pratap Shahi, Minister for Agriculture, Education and Research, Government of Uttar Pradesh, who graced the inaugural session. In his address, he emphasised the critical role of agricultural reforms, education and research in realising the vision of a developed India. On the second day, Kalraj Misra, Former Governor of Rajasthan, delivered an insightful address during the memorial session, sharing his perspectives on governance and nation-building.

Over the course of three days, the conference witnessed deliberations by 52 eminent speakers, while 74 research papers were presented across plenary sessions, memorial lectures and parallel technical sessions. The discussions focused on key challenges and opportunities facing the Indian economy amid global economic uncertainty, rapid technological change and evolving geopolitical dynamics.

The conference commenced on December 21 with a formal inaugural session. Prof. Taruna Gautam, Vice Chancellor, IILM University, welcomed the delegates and highlighted the significance of sustained academic engagement in shaping India’s long-term economic vision. Prof. A. P. Pandey, President, IEA, reflected on the Association’s historic role in advancing economic thought and policy dialogue in India. Prof. Amitabh Kundu, Conference President, IEA, offered a critical assessment of regional disparities, inclusive growth and structural transformation. Prof. Indu Varshney, General Secretary, IEA, played a key role in chairing sessions and ensuring the smooth conduct of the conference.

Key academic engagements included plenary sessions on financial reforms, agricultural revitalisation, digitalisation and artificial intelligence, labour market transitions, external trade and geopolitical realignments. The conference also featured memorial lectures in honour of eminent economists and national leaders, including P. R. Brahmananda, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and P. K. Bhargava. The Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial Lecture, delivered in the presence of Shri Kalraj Misra, reflected on Vajpayee’s vision of nation-building and its continuing relevance in contemporary governance.

A special session on the Uttar Pradesh economy examined the state’s role in India’s broader development trajectory, with emphasis on regionally balanced growth, technology-driven transformation and inclusivity. Adding a cultural dimension to the academic discourse, the conference also featured cultural performances, including a Kathakali presentation by Sahil Suresh and the BA Psychology team.

The conference concluded with a strong consensus on the need to pursue inclusive growth, financial and agricultural reforms, MSME development, technological capability, good governance and state-specific policy strategies. The deliberations reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Indian Economic Association and IILM University to fostering informed economic dialogue aligned with India’s national development goals and the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
