New Delhi News (24/12/2025): The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) on Monday conferred the 9th and 10th Northern Region Export Excellence Awards, recognising outstanding exporters for their significant contribution to India’s export growth and global trade presence. The award ceremony was held in the national capital and graced by Rajesh Agrawal, Commerce Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, who presented the honours to the achievers.
The prestigious awards aim to acknowledge and encourage high-performing exporters at the state and regional levels who have demonstrated excellence in innovation, quality standards, competitiveness, and sustained export growth. The Northern Region — comprising Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh — continues to be a key driver of India’s export momentum.
Addressing the gathering, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal congratulated the award recipients and praised their resilience in navigating global economic uncertainties. He noted that despite geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and fluctuating global demand, India’s export sector has remained robust and resilient.
Highlighting recent performance, Rajesh Agrawal said India’s overall exports recorded a growth of 5.43 per cent during the first eight months of the current financial year. Merchandise exports reached USD 292 billion during this period, reflecting steady progress towards the national goal of achieving USD 2 trillion in exports by 2030. He attributed this growth to strong performance across sectors such as electronics, engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, IT services, petroleum products, agriculture, and processed food products, underscoring the increasing diversification and technological strength of India’s export basket.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to exporters, the Commerce Secretary emphasised the role of the Foreign Trade Policy in creating a stable, transparent, and facilitative trade ecosystem. He highlighted initiatives focused on trade facilitation, digitalisation, paperless processes, and reduced compliance burden to enhance ease of doing business. He also informed that the government plans to launch the Bharat Trade Net, building upon the Trade Connect Portal, to further streamline compliance and logistics processes.
Rajesh Agrawal also spoke about India’s expanding global trade footprint through Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) signed with countries such as the UAE, Australia, the UK, Oman, and New Zealand, while noting substantial progress in ongoing negotiations with the European Union, the United States, Israel, Chile, Peru, and the Eurasian Economic Union.
FIEO President S. C. Ralhan, while congratulating the awardees, applauded Indian exporters for their entrepreneurial spirit and global competitiveness. He observed that despite challenges such as geopolitical instability, commodity price volatility, and economic slowdowns in major markets, exporters have successfully diversified into emerging markets across Africa, Latin America, West Asia, and Southeast Asia. He also pointed to strong growth prospects in sectors including electronics, engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, agriculture, processed foods, and green technologies.
In his welcome address, Arvind Goenka, Regional Chairman (Northern Region), FIEO, highlighted the Northern Region’s diverse and robust export base spanning textiles, handlooms, carpets, sports goods, engineering products, handicrafts, automobiles, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, IT services, and e-commerce. He noted that northern states have adopted proactive export-led development strategies through State Export Promotion Policies and District Export Action Plans under the ‘Districts as Export Hubs’ initiative. Collectively, states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Uttarakhand contribute over USD 70 billion to India’s annual exports.
Arvind Goenka further added that focused initiatives such as cluster development programmes, ODOP-linked exports, logistics parks, and exporter facilitation centres are empowering MSMEs, artisans, and first-time exporters to access international markets and generate employment.
Delivering the concluding remarks, Dr Ajay Sahai, Director General and CEO, FIEO, stressed the need for exporters to strengthen internal processes, adopt advanced technologies, build world-class logistics capabilities, and diversify products and markets. He noted that India’s growing digital infrastructure, expansion of 5G, digital payment systems, sustainable manufacturing practices, and skilled workforce would play a crucial role in driving the next phase of export growth and supporting India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The 9th and 10th Northern Region Export Excellence Awards 2025 celebrated the achievements of exporters who have made a lasting impact on India’s trade performance. FIEO reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with exporters and the government to unlock new opportunities and position India as a leading global trading nation.
