Greater Noida News (27/03/2026): The 27th edition of the CEC-UGC Educational Film Festival commenced on Friday at Gautam Buddha University, marking the beginning of a two-day celebration of educational cinema, innovation, and academic collaboration. Organized annually since its inception in 1988, the festival has grown into a prominent platform that brings together academicians, filmmakers, students, and institutions from across India and abroad.
The inaugural ceremony began with a traditional lamp-lighting session attended by distinguished dignitaries including Prof. (Dr.) Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director of Consortium for Educational Communication, Prof. Rana Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University, Prof. Madhav Govind, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dr. Sunil Mehru, Joint Director (SW).
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Manhas emphasized India’s rich legacy of knowledge and cultural heritage, highlighting the role of the festival as a meaningful initiative to disseminate this knowledge through the medium of cinema. He described the festival as a platform that enables filmmakers and educators to make learning accessible to a wider audience, transcending geographical and temporal barriers. Sharing his vision of “Cinema for Change,” he underscored the importance of educational films in reaching even the most remote regions of the country.
He also stressed the need for continuous skill development in today’s rapidly evolving digital environment, particularly for youth and educators. While acknowledging the transformative role of technology, he noted that it remains a tool guided by human intent and creativity.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rana Pratap Singh echoed similar sentiments, stating that the festival reflects a forward-looking approach toward integrating video-based learning into higher education. He pointed out that the expansion of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), as envisaged under the National Education Policy 2020, represents the future of digital education. He further emphasized the importance of incorporating digital course content into mainstream academic frameworks.
This year’s festival includes an Award-cum-Screening segment, featuring recognition across 12 categories that cover areas such as creative excellence, innovative use of ICT in education, and technical proficiency. Special awards have also been instituted for media students, including the Best Amateur Video Production Award, as well as the Best Programme of the Year Award dedicated exclusively to UGC-CEC Media Centres.
A total of 320 entries were received for this edition, out of which 19 films have been shortlisted by an eminent jury through a rigorous preview process. These selected films will be screened over the course of the festival, offering valuable insights and learning experiences to students and other stakeholders. Winners will be awarded cash prizes ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000, along with trophies and screening certificates.
The event witnessed the participation of media professionals, filmmakers, academic leaders, faculty members, and representatives from CEC’s Educational Multimedia Research Centres (EMRCs), along with a large number of students from Gautam Buddha University. The festival continues to serve as a vital platform for fostering dialogue, creativity, and innovation in the field of educational filmmaking while promoting meaningful engagement with socially relevant themes.
