New Delhi News (18 August 2026): The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, marked its presence at the National Consultation on AI Readiness for Healthcare, Education & Research and AI Literacy Bootcamp, held at Hotel Eros, Nehru Place, New Delhi, on August 16, 2026.
The national-level consultation brought together senior healthcare professionals, medical educators, university leaders, policymakers and experts to deliberate on the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, medical education and research.
The event was jointly organised by Medical Dialogues, National Medical Forum, National Medical AI Mission (NMAIM) and the Association of Indian Health Sciences Universities, with support from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The programme was held under the leadership of Dr. Prem Aggarwal, Chairman, Medical Dialogues and President, National Medical AI Mission, and Dr. K. K. Kohli, Chief Editor (Medical News), Medical Dialogues.
Eminent Healthcare and Medical Education Leaders Participate
The consultation witnessed participation from several prominent figures from the healthcare and medical education sectors.
Among the distinguished guests were Dr. Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Government of India; Dr. Abhijat Chandrakant Sheth, President, National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) and Chairman, National Medical Commission (NMC); Dr. Vedprakash Mishra, Chairperson of the National Experts Panel constituted by NMC; National Head of Academic Programmes and UNESCO Chair in Bioethics (Haifa); and Chief Advisor to Chancellor & KVV, Karad.
The event also saw the participation of Dr. Sanghamitra Pati, Additional Director General, ICMR, and Dr. Sanjay Tewari, Chairperson, National Dental Commission, among other senior experts.
GIMS Director Highlights Need for AI Integration
GIMS Director Dr. (Brig.) Rakesh Kumar Gupta represented the institute as a distinguished panelist during Panel 1, which focused on “Institutional Digital Infrastructure & Digital Learning Environments for Medical Education.”

During the discussion, Dr. Gupta emphasised the importance of integrating Artificial Intelligence into healthcare delivery, medical education and research in a structured and responsible manner.
He highlighted the need for institutions to develop robust digital infrastructure, appropriate technological frameworks and effective governance mechanisms to facilitate the adoption of AI. He also stressed that medical institutions must be adequately equipped to leverage emerging technologies while ensuring that their implementation remains aligned with academic and healthcare requirements.
His participation reflected GIMS Greater Noida’s growing focus on digital transformation and the adoption of technology-driven approaches across healthcare, education and research.
Dr. Prerna Agarwal Receives Peacock Medical Education Excellence Award
A major highlight of the programme was the recognition of Dr. Prerna Agarwal, Assistant Professor, Department of Physiology, GIMS Greater Noida, with the prestigious Peacock Medical Education Excellence Award 2026.
The award was presented by Medical Dialogues and the National Medical AI Mission (NMAIM) during the ceremony. Dr. Agarwal was selected following evaluation by an expert jury and was honoured in the presence of distinguished dignitaries participating in the national consultation.
The award recognises her contributions to competency-based medical education (CBME), faculty development and training, creation of educational resources in physiology, academic research and registered copyrights for educational innovations.

Her recognition at the national platform highlights the contribution of GIMS faculty members towards strengthening medical education through innovative teaching practices, academic research and development of educational resources.
GIMS Delegation Highlights Focus on Innovation and Digital Transformation
The GIMS delegation also included Dr. Vivek Gupta, Professor, Department of Pathology, and Rahul Singh, CEO, GIMS Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI).
Their participation further underlined the institute’s emphasis on building an ecosystem that combines medical education, clinical expertise, innovation and emerging technologies.
