Aam Aadmi Party MLAs involved in stubble burning in Punjab: Vijay Goel

New Delhi, 5th November, 2019: MP and former BJP Delhi President, Vijay Goel and MP Parvesh Verma said that the objections raised by them have been vindicated by the Supreme Court as well and that the Delhi government has been criticised for its odd-even. Yesterday, the Supreme Court had questioned the Delhi government as to why private four-wheeler cars have been prohibited from Odd-Even when over 70% of vehicles including two-wheelers, three-wheelers and taxis have been exempted. The Supreme Court also questioned that what is the purpose of Odd-Even?

Goel and Verma said that Supreme Court questioned the Delhi government about the benefits of previously implemented Odd-Even scheme? Goel said that every environmental organisation like CPCB, DPCC, TERI and a DTU research have the unanimous opinion that Odd-Even does not have any significant impact on the pollution levels.

Taking a jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party, Goel and Verma said that it has been blaming stubble burning for spike in pollution levels in Delhi, however, in Punjab the Aam Aadmi Party is itself involved in stubble burning. Aam Aadmi Party has 19 MLAs in Punjab who are openly supporting stubble-burning.

Goel and Verma said that Aam Aadmi Party’s former President, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, had himself burnt stubble on camera in Ludhiana, Punjab. This was widely covered by newspapers as well. However, no action was taken against him.

Goel and Verma said that Central Government’s assistance of Rs 1100 crores to provide happy seeders was not used in Punjab. Governmental organisation were to be provided with these machines but they were not given. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party, which is the largest opposition party in Punjab with 17 MLAs is also mum on this. All the 19 MLAs of AAP come from rural areas where stubble burning is prominent. These MLAs have not given any clear stance on stubble burning either.

Goel and Verma said that Kejriwal government did not do anything in last five years to curb pollution neither has been able to produce a account of steps taken by it to curb pollution. On one hand, CM Kejriwal is shouting about stubble burning, on the other hand, his MLAs are burning it in Punjab. Goel and Verma also produced a list of MLAs in whose areas stubble is being burnt in Punjab.

Goel and Verma said that he will be sending a letter to CM Kejriwal in which he has asked 10 questions. He hopes that CM Kejriwal will answer these questions so that Delhiites can also know the work done by Kejriwal government.

Goel and Verma said that now Kejriwal government and his ministers are talking about inter-governmental cooperation. These people not even once approached the seven MPs of Delhi on pollution and did not follow the EPCA guidelines either.
