New Delhi, 14th July 2023: Adah Sharma has commented on The Kerala Story smashing box office records and how comments from celebrities such as Naseeruddin Shah and Kamal Haasan did not dissuade fans from seeing the film in theatres.

Kamal Haasan voiced his displeasure with The Kerala Story. According to the news agency ANI, Kamal stated,“I told you, it’s propagandist films that I am against. It’s not enough if you write ‘true story’ just at the bottom as a logo. It has to really be true and that is not true.”

Meanwhile, Naseeruddin Shah described the film’s popularity as a dangerous tendency, comparing it to Nazi Germany’s practise of making films on the Jewish community.

Adah Sharma was asked about her reaction to Naseeruddin and Kamal’s views regarding the film in a new interview with Jagran.

She stated, “I rejoiced at the freedom of speech we have in our country, where without even watching a film, it can be discredited, labeled and publicly be ripped apart. Anyone can say anything about anybody and can continue to live unharmed; that’s the beauty of Bharat. I love my country! People with different ideologies can co-exist.”

Adah added, “It’s wonderful that even after such famous actors made their stance about what they thought of the film clear, the audiences still chose to go to theatres to support a film that stood against terrorism.”

The Kerala Story sparked controversy with the release of its trailer in April, which claimed that over 32,000 Kerala women were forced to convert to Islam and join the terror organisation ISIS. The figure was later removed from the caravan, and the caption stated that it was the story of three women from Kerala.

The movie became a box office hit. The Kerala Story, which was made on a 40 crore budget, has gathered over 300 crore in domestic and global collections and recently completed 50 days in theatres.
