National News (05/09/2026): The Aditya Birla Group has announced its entry into India’s rapidly expanding wires and cables industry with the launch of Ultravolt, marking the conglomerate’s fourth new business venture in the last three years.
The new business, housed under UltraTech Cement Limited, will be backed by an investment of ₹1,800 crore and is positioned to emerge as one of the country’s leading players in the wires and cables segment. At the time of its launch, Ultravolt is expected to rank as the second-largest player in the wires segment in terms of manufacturing capacity.
The company has set an ambitious target of becoming one of the top two players in the wires and cables industry within the next five years, while building a strong national brand with a wide distribution and retail network.
Ultravolt to Strengthen UltraTech’s Building Solutions Strategy
With its entry into the electrical products market, UltraTech Cement is expanding its presence across the broader construction and home-building ecosystem.
The company already operates across several segments, including grey cement, ready-mix concrete, building products and white cement. The addition of wires and cables is expected to further strengthen UltraTech’s Building Solutions strategy, enabling it to participate more extensively in the growing demand arising from residential construction, infrastructure development and electrification.
Speaking about the new business, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, said that wires and cables are becoming increasingly important to India’s next phase of economic development.
He highlighted urbanisation, electrification and digitisation as three major trends expected to drive long-term demand in the sector. According to Birla, the construction of more than 100 million new homes over the coming decade, expansion of the country’s energy infrastructure and the rapid growth of data centres could significantly accelerate the wires and cables market.
Birla also emphasised that the Group’s understanding of products, components and related ecosystems would provide an advantage as it enters the new category.
He further said that creating successful new businesses has increasingly become an integral part of the Aditya Birla Group’s growth strategy and a key source of differentiation.
Ultravolt Plans Pan-India Expansion
Unlike a gradual regional rollout, Ultravolt plans to establish its presence across the country from the outset.
Dilip Gaur, Director, Ultravolt, said the company intends to reach more than one lakh retailers and strengthen its market presence through over 5,000 UltraTech Building Solutions (UBS) outlets.
As part of its initial expansion strategy, Ultravolt plans to cover more than 500 districts and 6,000 pin codes, creating a broad distribution network across India.
The company will leverage UltraTech’s existing relationships with individual home builders, contractors, real estate developers and EPC companies, along with its established distribution infrastructure, to accelerate market penetration.
Ultravolt’s distribution strategy will also be supported by a network of more than 20 warehouses, extensive channel partnerships and a nationwide supply chain.
Gaur said the company intends to build the new business around four key pillars — product quality, technology, customer service and strong channel partnerships.
New Manufacturing Facility Established in Gujarat
Ultravolt’s manufacturing operations are anchored by a newly established facility at Jhagadia in Bharuch district, Gujarat.
The location has been strategically selected to support efficient logistics and distribution while enabling the company to cater to markets across different parts of the country.
The facility is expected to play a crucial role in supporting Ultravolt’s large-scale national rollout and meeting the anticipated growth in demand.
Ultravolt Launches Home Wires and Cables Portfolio
According to Sriram Rangarajan, CEO, Ultravolt, the company is adopting a consumer-focused approach to a category that is essential to everyday life but often receives limited attention from consumers.
Ultravolt is launching with a portfolio covering home wires, flexible wires and cables designed for a range of applications across residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure segments.
The company said product development will focus on safety, performance and future-readiness, with an emphasis on meeting the evolving requirements of consumers and businesses.
Ultravolt also plans to gradually expand its product portfolio into a wider range of electrical accessories, potentially allowing it to build a broader presence in the electrical and home-building solutions market.
Electrician Engagement Programme to Train 40,000 Professionals
Alongside its product and distribution strategy, Ultravolt is developing an electrician-focused engagement and training programme.
The initiative is designed to improve product awareness, promote electrical safety and strengthen installation practices among electricians.
More than 1,600 electricians have already joined the programme ahead of the official launch, while Ultravolt aims to train more than 40,000 electricians over the next year.
The training programme is being developed under the Skill India initiative in collaboration with the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI).
With its ₹1,800-crore investment, manufacturing capacity, nationwide distribution plans and focus on electricians and channel partners, Ultravolt is positioning itself for an aggressive entry into India’s wires and cables market.
The venture marks another significant diversification move by the Aditya Birla Group and further expands UltraTech Cement’s presence across the construction value chain. The company’s ability to rapidly build distribution, establish consumer trust and compete on quality and safety will be key to its stated ambition of becoming a top-two player in the sector within five years.
