Greater Noida News (13 March 2026): In a major development for India’s aviation sector, Noida International Airport (NIA) has entered into a strategic partnership with Akasa Air to set up the airline’s first Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the upcoming airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

The collaboration marks an important step toward strengthening India’s aviation infrastructure and transforming the airport into a key hub for aircraft maintenance services. Under this agreement, Akasa Air will develop and operate a state-of-the-art MRO facility within the airport premises, providing a wide range of aircraft maintenance services designed to enhance operational efficiency, safety standards and reliability in airline operations.

Officials said the facility will play a vital role in supporting aircraft maintenance requirements not only for Akasa Air but also for the broader aviation ecosystem. It is expected to contribute significantly to building a strong domestic MRO network and reduce dependence on overseas maintenance services.

The partnership is also expected to generate substantial employment opportunities in the region and promote skill development in aviation-related technical fields. Industry experts believe the initiative will help create an integrated aviation ecosystem around the airport, boosting economic activity and strengthening the region’s position in the aviation sector.

The project aligns with the broader vision of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh to develop Noida International Airport as a major aviation hub and a leading center for MRO services in the country. Strengthening domestic maintenance capabilities is considered a key step toward enhancing India’s self-reliance in aviation operations while promoting innovation and efficiency in the sector.

Commenting on the development, Christoph Schnellmann, Chief Executive Officer of Noida International Airport, said Akasa Air’s decision to establish its first MRO facility in India at the airport reflects strong confidence in the airport’s long-term vision. He added that the partnership will significantly strengthen India’s MRO capabilities while also creating new opportunities for employment and professional training in the region.

Sharing his views on the collaboration, Vinay Dube, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Akasa Air, said the partnership represents the airline’s long-term approach to building a strong operational foundation. According to him, with India’s aviation market expanding rapidly, developing robust domestic MRO capabilities will be essential for airlines to maintain efficiency and reliability at scale. He noted that early investment in such infrastructure will help Akasa Air strengthen its operational framework while also contributing to the growth of India’s aviation ecosystem.
