Dwarka, 14th June 2023: Akashvani authorities have confirmed that the agency has dismantled a 90-metre high-transmission tower supported by a guy rope at Gujarat’s Dwarka as Cyclone Biparjoy is set to hit the Kutch and Saurashtra regions on Thursday.

After a safety examination of the structure, structural specialists from the National Institute of Technology, Surat, and Prasar Bharati’s civil construction division recommended removing the 35-year-old tower in January. Simultaneously, Akashvani was restoring Dwarka services, utilising the available resources.

Strong winds of 125-135 kmph with gusts up to 150 kmph are predicted to affect the Gujarat districts of Dwarka, Kutch, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagarh, and Morbi on Thursday as Biparjoy makes landfall near the Jakhau port.

“This was done to avoid any mishaps and to minimise damage to life and property in the surrounding areas,” an official statement read.
