New Delhi (India), 05/08/23: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) issued an urgent warning regarding a fraudulent and broad mobile app campaign in a recent tweet.
Fraudsters have been widely disseminating phishing URLs in an attempt to trick unwary users into installing a bogus ‘IRCTC Rail Connect’ smartphone app. The goal of these con artists is to dupe ordinary people into engaging in fraudulent operations.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which handles online ticketing and other railway-related services, has warned the public to be cautious and observant.
They encouraged customers to avoid being duped and install only the official IRCTC Rail Connect Mobile Apps, which are available on Google Play for Android users and the Apple App Store for iOS users.
This fraudulent mobile app scam is especially worrisome since it has the potential to hurt naïve users who may accidentally divulge critical personal information or become victims of financial fraud.
Because of the app’s phoney nature and false layout, users may enter sensitive information such as login passwords, payment information, and personal data, exposing them to identity theft and financial loss.
IRCTC wrote in the tweet, “Alert: It has been reported that a malicious and fake mobile app campaign is in circulation where some fraudsters are sending phishing links at a mass level and insisting users download fake ‘IRCTC Rail Connect’ mobile app to trick common citizens into fraudulent activities.”
They further added, “People are advised not to fall prey of such fraudsters and use only IRCTC’s official Rail Connect Mobile Apps from Google Play Store or Apple App Store, and call IRCTC Customer Care on official numbers published on IRCTC official website https://irctc.co.in. Be Alert! Be Safe!”
To combat this menace, the IRCTC has advised all commuters and users of its services to keep informed and take precautionary precautions to avoid falling prey to such fraudulent acts.
