New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah today inaugurated the newly constructed Delhi Police headquarters on Jai Singh Marg.

DCP (Central) and Public Relations Officer of the Delhi Police, M.S. Randhawa, said that it was a proud moment for the Delhi Police as its new HQ will be inaugurated on the birth anniversary of India’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

“Internal security is top priority of the Modi Government,” said Home Minister Amit Shah and emphasized that several steps have been taken to ensure it, including improving vigil on the borders and cracking down on fake notes.

Inaugurating the new Delhi Police headquarters, Shah stressed on the need to change the image of police.

“Internal security is on the top of the priority list of the Modi government. We have undertaken a lot of work to improve security on the borders and crackdown on fake notes,” he said.

Shah also paid tributes to Delhi Police personnel who lost their lives in the 2001 Parliament attack, and to inspector MC Sharma who was killed during the Batla House encounter.

A senior police officer said that the building is equipped with modern facilities and security features, including boom barrier with pop-up road blocker at the entry gate. “Security of the building will be provided by the Delhi Police, but the strength will be four times more than before.

The building will have a biometric entry system for staff and the premises will be secured by high definition CCTVs. We have separate entry gates for media persons, senior police officers and general public,” said a police officer.

The building is said to be earthquake-resistant, energy efficient and will also house a police museum.
