New Delhi (India), March 29, 2023: Radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh, who has been on the run for 12 days, has released a video confirming he remains at large.
Singh is wanted for an armed raid on a police station last month and supports a call for a separate homeland for Sikhs. Sources claim he has returned to Punjab and plans to surrender. However, Singh appeared to have escaped a massive door-to-door search operation launched by police in Hoshiarpur and neighboring villages to catch him and his associates.
The Punjab Police have been under immense pressure to arrest him and his supporters after they revived memories of the 1980s Punjab insurgency, in which thousands died. On Tuesday, a new video of Singh with his key aide Papalpreet Singh surfaced on social media, showing the preacher without a turban and wearing a mask.
The Punjab Police are currently looking into whether the people seen in the video are Amritpal Singh and his assistant. The undated CCTV footage, which is reportedly from a market in Delhi, showed the fugitive walking down a street wearing dark glasses.
