Delhi, August 21st, 2022: Politician and former Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Anand Sharma today resigned from the position of the Chairman of the Steering Committee of Himachal Pradesh Congress in a letter addressed to Sonia Gandhi.
Sharma cited in his tweets that he had been excluded from meetings and constantly insulted by his party members which is why he eventually decided to quit Congress.
“Given the continuing exclusion and insults, as a self-respecting person I was left with no choice”, he wrote.
He further added that he is a “lifelong Congressman” and will continue to campaign for the party candidates in the state.
“Reiterating that I am a lifelong Congress and remain firm on my convictions”, the tweet said.
Sharma’s resignation comes just days after his fellow member of the J&K Congress campaign committee Chairman, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad handed over his resignation.
Both Azad and Sharma were prominent leaders of the G23 grouping which has been critical of the decisions of the party leadership.
The resignation of Sharma, who is considered among the tallest leaders of Himachal Pradesh, will come as a setback for Congress who are hoping to win the upcoming elections and topple the BJP government.
