National News (26 August 2026): Apple has expanded its desktop Mac lineup with the launch of a new-generation Mac mini powered by the company’s first processor built on a 2-nanometre architecture. Introduced by Apple CEO Tim Cook, the latest Mac mini combines a more compact form factor with significant improvements in computing, graphics and artificial intelligence capabilities.
The biggest highlight of the new machine is Apple’s M6 chip, which has been designed to deliver faster performance while improving power efficiency. The company is positioning the new Mac mini as a compact desktop solution capable of handling everyday productivity, professional workloads and increasingly demanding AI-based applications.
M6 chip brings major performance upgrade
The standard M6 configuration features a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, along with two 16-core Neural Engines dedicated to machine-learning and AI workloads. Apple says the new model can deliver up to twice the graphics performance and four times the AI performance of the previous M4-powered Mac mini.
The base version comes with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage. Users requiring additional capacity can configure the machine with up to 32GB of memory and 2TB of storage, making it suitable for more demanding creative and professional workloads.
M5 Pro variant targets power users
Alongside the M6-powered Mac mini, Apple has introduced an M5 Pro version aimed at users who need substantially higher processing capabilities. The configuration includes a 15-core CPU and 12-core GPU, with the entry-level model offering 24GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage.
The higher-end variant can be configured with as much as 64GB of RAM and 8TB of storage, giving professionals greater flexibility for tasks such as video production, software development, 3D workflows and other data-intensive applications.
Wi-Fi 7 and faster Ethernet connectivity
Apple has also upgraded the connectivity options across the new Mac mini range. Both versions support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, providing faster and more modern wireless connectivity. Ethernet connectivity now starts at 2.5Gbps, while customers can opt for 10Gb Ethernet for high-speed wired networking. These upgrades could be particularly useful for professionals working with large files, network storage and high-bandwidth workflows.
Mac Studio also gets new configurations
Apple has simultaneously refreshed its Mac Studio lineup for users seeking desktop-class performance beyond the Mac mini. The Mac Studio now starts at ₹2,79,900 with the M5 Max chip, while the M5 Ultra-powered configuration begins at ₹6,29,900 in India.
For education customers, the starting prices are lower, with the Mac mini M6 available from ₹88,990, the M5 Pro version from ₹1,97,900, the M5 Max-powered Mac Studio from ₹2,56,900 and the M5 Ultra configuration from ₹5,84,900.

In India, the new Mac mini with M6 starts at ₹99,900, while the M5 Pro model carries a starting price of ₹2,09,900. Apple has opened pre-orders for the newly announced machines, with retail availability scheduled to begin from September 22 through Apple’s online and physical stores as well as authorised retailers.
The new lineup reflects Apple’s broader push toward custom silicon and AI-focused computing, with the company increasingly integrating neural-processing capabilities into its desktop and laptop hardware. The combination of a compact design, upgraded connectivity and stronger AI performance is expected to make the latest Mac mini particularly attractive to users looking for a small yet capable desktop system.
