It seems that work of the newly proposed extension of Aqua line from sector 142 to Botanical Garden will witness speedy progress. The line may have 11 stations on 10 km stretch that will get a ridership of 1 lakh per day as per the (Detailed Project Report) DPR drawn up in 2017.

While the current route of Aqua line is facing ridership problems since its inauguration in January this year. For fixing this, NMRC also made changes in timings and also reduced the timing gap between two metros but still, ridership remained poor. The main reason behind this is the corridor doesn’t have connectivity with Delhi metro. So commuters prefer to travel with buses till Botanical Garden and then onwards they take the metro. The new corridor will provide Greater Noida direct connectivity with Blue line and Magenta Line lying on Botanical Garden metro station.

This new project got approved on 31 May during Greater Noida Board meeting and now within three months, it gets a nod from centre and state cabinet. The total cost of the project will be around 2700 crores and as per the earlier DPR, it will have 11 stations. Sector 142, 136, 91, 93, 98, 127, 97, 126, 125, and Sector 94 will lay on the stretch on which sector 142 stations is already constructed.

“However within a stretch of 10 km 11 station may not be required as other metro stations are already functioning near the proposed stations and cost of constructing a metro station is quite high.” said an NMRC official
