New Delhi (04/05/2023): In the midst of the ongoing controversy over the Hindi film ‘The Kerala Story’, Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman uploaded a video on Twitter of a Hindu wedding that took place inside a mosque in Kerala.
The Kerala Story, directed by Sudipto Sen, has been slammed by Kerala’s government Left Front and the Congress for claiming that “approximately 32,000 women” went missing from the state after converting to Islam and joining ISIS.
The CPI(M) and the Congress in Kerala believe that these assertions are overblown and misrepresent the facts, however the film’s creators, producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah, maintain that it is based on a genuine story and that every scene in the film is accurate.
In the midst of this uproar, Academy Award-winning music composer AR Rahman posted a video of a Hindu wedding that took place inside a mosque in Kerala in 2020. The post is about Anju and Sharath’s wedding ceremony, which was performed according to Hindu rites and solemnised by a Hindu priest inside a mosque.
Rahman also captioned the post and wrote in his tweet, “Bravo…love for humanity has to be unconditional and healing.” . AR Rahman shared the video in an apparent call for communal harmony.
The post was actually a reshared tweet that was captioned, “Here is another #KeralaStory,” by a verified Twitter user with the username ‘Comrade from Kerala’
Shashi Tharoor, a senior Congress leader, was among many who attacked the makers of The Kerala Story, accusing them of “gross exaggeration” and “distortion” of the state’s realities.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court declined to hear petitions against the controversial Hindi film, which is set to be released on Friday, May 5.
