New Delhi (25/08/2019) : Union minister and BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley passed away at the age of 66 on Saturday after suffering from a prolonged illness. He was diagnosed with multiple health issues. The last rites will shortly be performed at the Nigambodh Ghat at 2PM with full state honours. Jawans of Delhi Police will give guard of honour and gun salute to the politician.
The gun carriage with Arun Jaitley’s body is on the way to Nigambodh Ghat from BJP headquarters where it was kept for leaders and party workers to pay their last respects.
Security has been beefed up at the Nigambodh Ghat as several politicians, ministers of the NDA government, party workers are accompanying the funeral procession. Large number of supporters are expected to turn up at the cremation ground in to pay their last respects to Arun Jaitley.
BJP workers, supporters and followers of the politician are chanting “Arun Jaitley amar rahe” as they walk with the gun carriage carrying Jaitley’s body through the streets of Delhi.
According to an AIIMS statement, Arun Jaitley, the legal luminary and BJP’s master strategist, breathed his last at 12.07 pm. He was admitted to the hospital on August 9 following complaint of breathlessness.
Delhi Police has issued traffic advisory, that says due to cremation of former FM Arun Jaitley at Nigam Bodh Ghat crematorium, the traffic volume is expected to be heavy on the Ring Road between Indraprasth Flyover and Chandagi Ram Akhara between 1 PM and 5 PM.
