Nov 29, 2022: Mentioning his roots as a son of holocaust survivor, Israeli envoy Naor Gilon slammed filmmaker Nadav Lapid’s remarks about the Indian movie, The Kashmir Files, and said that as a son of a holocaust survivor, he was extremely hurt by the remarks.

The diplomat’s response came after Nadav Lapid, the jury head of the International Film Festival of India 2022, referred to director Vivek Agnihotri’s movie as a vulgar film and stated he was apalled to see the film in the competition section of the film fest.

The diplomat stated, “As a son of a holocaust survivor, I was extremely hurt to see reactions in India to you that are doubting Schindler’s List, the Holocaust and worse.”

He further added, “I unequivocally condemn such statements. There is no justification. It does show the sensitivity of the Kashmir issue here.”

In an “open letter” to Lapid, Gilaon wrote, “In Indian culture they say that a guest is like God. You have abused in the worst way the Indian invitation to chair the panel of judges at IFFI Goa as well as the trust, respect and warm hospitality they have bestowed on you.”

While many have heaped praises on Lapid for “calling out propaganda”, others accused him of being insensitive towards the suffering of Kashmiri Pandits, despite being part of a community that were subjected to the horrors of the Holocaust.
