Auto Expo 2018: Maruti Suzuki launches the Swift, prices start at Rs 4.99 lakh

The third generation Maruti Suzuki Swift has been launched in the country with prices starting at Rs. 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Swift is priced up to Rs. 7.96 lakh for the range-topping variant.The Swift had been unveiled officially already. Even before the price reveals, Maruti Suzuki already started taking in bookings for the 2018 Swift for a token amount of Rs 11,000. The car has now been launched but the delivery period has already stretched to 6-8 weeks.

The 2018 Swift is the fourth-gen model since its launch in 2005 and was a part of the Indo-Japanese lineup’s bestsellers which also includes the Alto, WagonR, and the Dzire since then.

The new Swift will carry the same engine specs from the previous model, a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel MultiJet sourced from Fiat to comply with BS4 norms and a 1.2-litre petrol K Series engine mated to a five-speed gearbox. The new thing here is Maruti is also offering its Auto Gear Shit transmission (AGS) with the new Swift. The car will be offered in LXi/LDi, VXi/VDi, ZXi/ZDi, and ZXi+/ZDi+ variants.

The new model gets a refreshed body, new underpinnings based on the HEARTECT platform which also underpins the new Baleno, which makes the car lighter and more fuel efficient with greater stability.

On the exterior, the 2018 Swift gets new headlamps with LED projectors and DRLs, similar to the current Dzire. The Swift also gets a refreshed grille and a new bumper as well. There are changes to the side profile as the C-Pillar now gets black cladding, and new door handles on the pillar as well. The rear gets new lamps and a new bumper as well.

The prices for the 2018 Swift start at Rs 4.99 lakhs which is Rs 20,000-40,000 more than the outgoing model. The diesel variant starts at Rs 5.99 lakh. For the automatic variants, the new Swift starts at Rs 6.3 lakh for petrol AGS and Rs 7.34 for diesel AGS variant.
