Kolkata, 22nd June 2023: According to Raj Bhavan sources, West Bengal Governor Dr CV Ananda Bose declined to accept State Election Commissioner (SEC) Rajiva Sinha’s final report on Wednesday night, ahead of the July 8 panchayat polls.

The move reportedly came after Sinha failed to appear before Bose after being called for an explanation on the murders, violence, and conflicts that occurred during the nomination filing for the panchayat election earlier this month. The SEC’s appointing authority is the governor.

Sinha, who was summoned to the Raj Bhavan by the Governor on June 17, did not show up, claiming that he was occupied with scrutinising nominations for the upcoming panchayat elections.

The former state chief secretary had asked Bose to excuse him from appearing before him during the day and to schedule an appointment for a different day.

The governor approved Sinha’s appointment to the SEC position earlier this year in June. The following day, he set the date for the three-tier panchayat elections.
