(02/04/18) New Delhi: After holding agitations over the last few days to protest against the top court’s ruling on the SC/ST Act, several dalit outfits have called for a Bharat Bandh today. Large gatherings have taken place  at various places in the wake of the nationwide shutdown call given by Dalit Outfits that are protesting against the Supreme Court verdict on the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The protests continue even after the NDA government filed a petition seeking review of the Supreme Court order diluting the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, which protects marginalised communities against discrimination and atrocities. Thousands of Protesters on Monday, Gathered at Parliament Street in New Delhi protesting against the Supreme Court verdict on the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Addressing the gathering the Dalit Leaders collectively said, “The decision of Supreme Court to dilute SC/ST law is itself unconstitutional because the work of supreme Court is to interpret law not make or amend law. SC ST act has never been a part of constitution, is a separate act passed by Parliament to protect and give some Biased privileges to certain sections of the society who claim to be depressed the same depressed class which is violent today.”
