New Delhi, 7th July 2023: Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, jumped on the Threads bandwagon with a GIF just minutes after Meta debuted the software that bore a strong resemblance to Twitter.
Bill Gates wrote on threads, “I’m excited to jump into @threadsapp.”
To this the Meta CEO replied, “Pretty good jump tbh.”
Threads, which is being deemed as the “Twitter killer,” went online on Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries on Wednesday at 2300 GMT.
The Meta-owned microblogging app has emerged as the most serious competitor to Elon Musk’s Twitter, which has undergone significant modifications in its content moderation policy and verification process since the Tesla CEO took over the firm last year.
According to Zuckerberg, more than 30 million individuals downloaded Threads, Meta’s alternative to Twitter, within the first few hours of its launch.
Zuckerberg wrote on his Threads account, “Feels like the beginning of something special, but we’ve got a lot of work ahead to build the app.”
With his first Tweet in over a decade, Zuckerberg also poked fun at Musk, who is known to be a bitter adversary. In an apparent nod to the similarities between Threads and Twitter, Zuckerberg tweeted a Spiderman pointing at Spiderman meme.
Threads will operate without advertisements for the time being, however its introduction in Europe has been postponed due to data privacy concerns.
Threads, according to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, is meant to create “an open and friendly platform for conversations.”
