BIMTECH flags off 10th edition of International Conference on Management Cases

6th December, Greater Noida: Birla Institute of Management Technology, Greater Noida (BIMTECH), is jointly organizing the 10th International Conference on Management Cases 2020 (ICMC), with the University of Eastern Finland and the University of South Florida. ICMC aims at international relevance and encourages authors from all over the world to participate and share their experiences, network and discuss ideas from various facets of management on a platform created for academicians, practitioners, consultants, research scholars, and students of management studies. The five-day-long conference was launched on the 4th of December, 2020, and is going on in virtual mode this year due to the unprecedented times of the ongoing pandemic.

The first day of the event kick-started at 6:30 pm with an inaugural ceremony in which Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH reminisced the journey till this 10th edition of ICMC and addressed the audience with the importance of the case study method. This was followed by the Keynote speech of Arja Ropo, Professor of Management and Organization in the Faculty of Management and Business, Tampere University, Finland. She addressed the audience with her research on organizational spaces and leadership and identified leadership theory as a socio-material phenomenon where leadership is conceived as an embodied and performative process between the human and the material. She also mentioned her methodological stance- constructionism where she applies narrative and visual methods in qualitative case studies.

The keynote speech was followed by the launch of two books – Developing resilience (REZILIENCE) in disruptive Times – Insights from Strategic management and Sustainable Entrepreneurship – Innovation and transformation, which are a compilation of fifty-two case studies developed as the compendium of papers presented in the conference. This was followed by a grand award ceremony comprising of various awards like the 5- year recognition award for exemplary work by delegates of the conference, BIMTECH – GD Sardana Young Scholar Award & SAGE Award for young authors, awards by the Case Centre, UK for high-quality teaching cases and BIMTECH’s Case Analysis Competition awards. The next session comprised of another keynote speech by Olivia (Mandy) O’Neill, Ph.D., an Associate Professor of Management at the George Mason University School of Business, USA and Senior Scientist at the university’s Center for the Advancement of Well-Being. She spoke about organizational culture and introduced a new way of thinking about culture- Emotional Culture.

The first day of the conference concluded at 8:30 pm with a vote of thanks by Dr. Arunaditya Sahay, Dean, Research, BIMTECH and paved the way for brainstorming in the next four days of the conference which would include sessions on innovative case presentation format ‘Forum for Collective Wisdom’, a few technical sessions on various arenas of management and a couple of Case Master Development workshops
