Greater Noida, 20/10/19: Manya Bharadwaj, a 1st year PGDM student at Birla Institute of Management Technology, Greater Noida was recently bestowed with Karmaveer Chakra Award, 2019 and TCC-REX Karmaveer Global Young Leaders Fellowship.

Karmaveer Chakra Awards and TCC-REX Karmaveer Global Young Leaders Fellowship is instituted with the UN and issued by iCONGO – International Confederation of NGOs for more than 13 years now.

The objective of the TCC-REX Karmaveer Chakra Awards is to recognize young champions of change who walk the path less trodden and are doing something different to change the mindsets of people.

Manya has earlier been actively engaged with the debating circuit in the country as the President of English Debate Society of her Alma Master – Maitreyi College, University of Delhi.

She has a keen interest in teaching school students and has taught the students in the schools of Himachal where she also helped establish debate societies with an aim to develop wider sense of perspective in students.

On her achievement, Manya said ‘I’m most humbled with the opportunity and the platform that has been provided to me and I would like to work every day to help people realize that they have the agency of their lives and decisions. They cannot be reduced by their immediate identity or the surname they carry. We all are human beings and the sense of humanity we must seek. Nothing more and certainly nothing less.’

‘In future I’d like to work more proactively to reverse the narrative of caste discrimination, gender disparity and other differences which espouse from purely patriarchal social constructs that stink of regressive norms.’ She further added.

When asked about her inspiration, she said ‘I am very inspired by a line from Maya Angelou’s poem, “I come as one, but I stand as 10,000”. I stand for all the girls and minorities whose voices have been scuttled. I stand to rid the society of all the evils.’

Manya has been an integral part of Media Team at BIMTECH which is headed by Prof. Saloni Sinha.

When asked about Manya’s achievement, Prof. Sinha said ‘It indeed makes me proud to know Manya, as we work closely in my media team at Bimtech. She is one of the most committed member. Many congratulations to her on being conferred the coveted fellowship and Karmaveer Chakra for her dedicated contribution towards education and equality in remote villages of her home state Himachal Pradesh. It is indeed inspiring.’

‘We need more Manya’s around us to give us Tagore’s society “where the mind is without fear and the head is held high”. It will happen only when each of us become changemakers and take the responsibility of improving others’ lives.’

‘We are sure Manya will achieve greater success in her life and her mission.’
