Rajasthan, Sept 20th, 2022: Known to be fiercely protective of the country’s wildlife, the Bishnoi community of Rajasthan has written to PM Modi after 181 chitals(spotted deers) were taken from Rajasthan as food for the newly-arrived cheetahs at Kuno National Park.
In a tweet, BJP leader Kuldeep Bishnoi also cited reports about deers being “dropped” at the park, for giving them as food for the cheetahs that have been recently reintroduced in India.
They further said that the deers of India should be protected since they are close to being extinct in some parts of the country.
“I request the central government to get the matter investigated in view of the species of deer which are on the verge of extinction in Rajasthan and the sentiments of the Bishnoi society”, Bishnoi said in a tweet.
In a letter written to PM Narendra Modi, the President of Akhil Bhartiya Bishnoi Mahasabha, Devendra Bishnoi stated that it is very disappointing after coming to know about the practice as his community is working hard to protect the species from all the dangers and threats.
Devendra further said that they intend to hold a national-level seminar about this issue in Bikaner on Sept 25th. The Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar is likely to attend the meeting as well.
He also added that the Bishnoi community will start a statewide protest if the decision isn’t reversed by then.
The community is known for revering the blackbuck, and wildlife in general.
