Shimla, 02nd July 2023: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Jairam Thakur praised Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh for his support for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), stating he listened to his conscience and articulated it.
“If Vikramaditya Singh has said this, it means that he listened to his conscience and expressed it,” Mr Thakur said, adding that many individuals from many political parties and beliefs support the UCC.
In a departure from the Congress’ position on UCC, Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh stated that the party will support UCC whenever it appears and that the Congress has always contributed to advancing unity and integrity.
“We have stated that we will support the Uniform Civil Code whenever it is introduced. The Congress Party has always contributed to advancing unity and integrity,” he remarked. Vikramaditya Singh is the son of state Congress head Pratibha Singh and the late Virbhadra Singh, the hill state’s six-time head Minister.
On the other hand, Vikramaditya Singh accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of launching a fresh issue to mislead people. “Manipur has been on the verge of civil war for over a month.” However, no action was taken against the Chief Minister. “The BJP avoids discussing the country’s real issues and launches a new debate to mislead people,” he remarked.
