Brig. Dr. Rakesh Gupta completes 5 years as GIMS Director, receives extension amid Exemplary Leadership

Greater Noida, 21st July: Brigadier (Dr) Rakesh Gupta, renowned pediatrician and esteemed healthcare leader, on Friday announced that he has been granted a one-year extension to his tenure as Director of the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS). Having successfully completed his five-year term, Dr. Gupta expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all those who supported him during his tenure at GIMS.

Dr. Gupta assumed the role of Director on July 21, 2018, and since then, the institute has witnessed an exceptional transformation under his visionary leadership. Expressing his appreciation, Dr. Gupta conveyed his thanks to the patients, public, press (both digital and print media), GIMS staff, faculty, residents, District administration, Noida & Greater Noida Authority, Gautam Buddha University, and the Government of Uttar Pradesh for their unwavering support and cooperation.

Over the past five years, the GIMS has thrived under Dr. Gupta’s guidance. The institute is now fully functional, catering to an impressive influx of patients. The outpatient department (OPD) records an overwhelming footfall of over 1500 patients daily, while the number of admitted patients has surged to over 400. A significant accomplishment has been the fourfold increase in inpatient admissions from 4593 in 2018 to an astonishing 18409 in 2022.

Notably, GIMS garnered immense appreciation from the Government of Uttar Pradesh for its commendable efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. The institute was lauded as the Best Covid Care Institute in the entire state, a testament to its unwavering commitment to public health and patient care.

Under Dr. Gupta’s leadership, GIMS has achieved remarkable milestones in academics and research. The institute introduced MBBS (2019) and DNB (2020) courses, fostering a nurturing environment for aspiring medical professionals. Additionally, the launch of the College of Nursing (2021) and Paramedical School (2021) further solidified GIMS’s commitment to comprehensive healthcare education.

The institute has also embraced cutting-edge advancements in research and technology. Key initiatives include the establishment of an IGNOU center, Multi-disciplinary Research Unit, Virtual Reality Development Lab (VRDL), Genome Sequencing, and a BSL3 lab to enhance research capabilities and promote medical innovation.

During his tenure, Dr. Gupta also capably managed the PGICH Noida for one year, showcasing his versatility and commitment to healthcare excellence.

Expressing his delight at the opportunity to serve GIMS for another year, Dr. Gupta humbly sought the continued cooperation of all stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem.
