New Delhi (India), 11th April 2023: Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal took to Twitter on Monday to express his concern and bash Maruti Suzuki for harming the region’s volatile ecosystem via their latest ad campaign.

The MP shared a 15 second video on Twitter which currently has over 126 thousand views, in which the shooting of the advertisement is taking place with the backdrop of a lake and mountains. The neon green Maruti Suzuki car in the video is being driven in the water of the lake.

Jamyang criticised this and wrote in his tweet, “I condemn @Maruti_Corp’s irresponsible advertisement act. The fragile ecosystem should not be destroyed for the sake of commercial gain.”

He further asked officials to stop the campaign and take steps against the company. He said, “I urge the administration to halt the shooting & take legal action as necessary. Let’s preserve the unique beauty of Ladakh for future gen.”

However this tweet didn’t receive much appreciation and support. Many people on Twitter blasted the MP and said that the move was uncalled for. According to some netizens such activities do not harm the ecology but boost tourism in the Union Territory which holds more leverage and is more important for the locals of the region.

One user said, “What happens to the ecology of ladakh when there is shooting of a vehicle…. How does it harm the ecology of ladakh……could you please explain….By promoting these shootings you could promote tourism in ladakh for adventure tourists.”

Ironically the incident happened exactly a year after tourists on 11th April 2022 faced mass criticism for driving a White Audi car in the waters of the pristine Pangong Lake in Ladakh.
