New Delhi, 13 October 2022: In a case defending the rights of women residing in Virender Dev Dixit’s Rohini ashram, Delhi High Court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation to “take all necessary means” to capture the fugitive “godman.”

During the hearing on October 7, it was revealed to the bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad that Dixit had been a proclaimed offender and that his location were still unknown.

Earlier, the court already expressed shock at the ashram’s situation. The Delhi Commission for Women had reported that the ashram’s restroom cubicles lacked doors when the government ordered a team to check the ashram’s grounds in 2017. While over 100 girls were confined there in inhumane, animal-like circumstances with little privacy.

In the recent court’s order, it is stated, that videos are being published by Virender Dev Dixit even now, and one was even uploaded in August 2022, as noted by the learned amicus curiae. It is really odd that there has been no CBI report regarding the arrest of Virender Dev Dixit.

The CBI superintendent of police was requested to be present on the next hearing date, November 10, and the court ordered the CBI to submit an affidavit detailing Dixit’s detention.

The court also ordered Adhyatmik Vishwa Vidyalaya, an ashram, to register under the 1956 Women’s and Children’s Institutions (Licensing) Act. However, notwithstanding the ashram’s appeal, the Supreme Court rejected the case. The court judgment specified that the institution must adhere to the order from April 26, 2022, and register under the Act of 1956.

The Delhi government was ordered by the court to receive an application for registration from the ashram within a week of October 7 and to provide the requested order within four weeks.
