Citizens rough-up constable for smuggling liquor, arrested by police

Greater Noida : A 24-year-old constable was arrested for illegally selling seized liquor in Rabupura area of Greater Noida on Friday, after stealing a seized car parked inside Rabupura police station in Greater. The accused has been identified as Ashwani Kumar, attached to a local police station.

Two days ago, the police had seized a car and recovered a few cartons of illegal liquor from an accused. The accused was produced in court and sent to judicial custody. The seized liquor was kept in a store room in the police station. Ashwani Kumar first stole the car from police station and then went on a ride and started selling liquor to the locals on high cost. But when some local people tried to stop him he threatened them of dire consequences if they disrupted him.

After that the locals informed the police about the incident. A police team reached the spot and arrested the accused around 2 AM in the night from the spot. “He has been booked under the Excise Act for trying to sell contraband liquor and also under Section 378 of the IPC for stealing the car. He was produced before the court and was sent to judicial custody.” SHO Rabupura police station told
