Civil Aviation Minister to inaugurate Delhi Aiport’s 4th runway

New Delhi, 07th July 2023: India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia is all set to inaugurate the twin elevated Eastern Cross Taxiways and the fourth runway at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on July 13.
The new runway, known as ‘Runway 29 Right and 11 Left’ (29R/11L), will first be used for ‘departures’.
Following the inauguration, Delhi Airport will be the country’s only airport with four runways. It currently has a three-runway system known as the northern runway and the southerly runway, labelled 27-28 North and 29 South.
“Commissioning of Runway 29R along with associated and other Taxiways and Re-Designation of Existing Taxiways at lGlA, effective July 13, 2O23,” according to Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP). Runway 11V29R will only be utilised for departures and will not be used for landings.
According to Delhi ATC data, adding the fourth runway will increase aviation movements to above 100 flights per hour. At the moment, Delhi ATC handles about 86 planes every hour.
