Colleague thrashes engineer to death, then surrenders

Gurgaon: A 35-year-old mechanical engineer, Naseeb Singh Lather, was allegedly murdered by his colleague and roommate with a baseball stick in a rented house in Jal Vihar colony in Sector 46 (under Sadar police station limits) late on Monday night.The accused, Ravinder Kumar, fled the spot hours later, early morning on Tuesday, and surrendered in the Mahendergarh police station late on Tuesday night. On Wednesday cops from the Sadar police station arrested the accused man in Mahendergarh, produced him before a city court and took him on a day’s remand.The accused, Ravinder Kumar, resident of district Mahendergarh, informed some of his and Naseeb’s colleagues about Naseeb’s death in the afternoon. Ravinder told police that a fight had broken out between him and Naseeb, when the latter asked him about his plans to bring his family over.

Naseeb had asked him why Ravinder did not take him into confidence whereas he had told some other colleagues about his plans.”The quarrel that had started with a trivial argument ended with Ravinder, who was drunk, hitting Naseeb with a baseball stick. Naseeb fell unconscious and it is not clear when he had breathed his last,” police said, quoting the accused. Ravinder than locked the room and fled in Naseeb’s mobike towards Rewari.Naseeb, who was from Jind district, had got Ravinder his job in the private company where the two were employed.The accused told police that when he reached near Rewari he made a call to a friend of his, who had nothing to do with the company, and told him that he was going to commit suicide but the friend persuaded him to meet him once before taking the extreme step.
