New Delhi (India), April 28, 2023: BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal’s recent statement referring to former Congress president and MP Sonia Gandhi as a “visha kanya” (venomous woman) has caused uproar in political circles. Yatnal’s remarks came as a response to All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge’s “poisonous snake” remark allegedly directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Yatnal made these comments while addressing a campaign rally in the Koppal district. He criticized Kharge for his “cobra” comment on the Prime Minister and demanded an apology. He also alleged that Sonia Gandhi had “spoiled the country” and worked as an “agent of China and Pakistan”.

Following the controversial statement, KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar hit out at the BJP and called for an apology from Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. He also demanded that BJP President J.P. Nadda expel Yatnal from the party. The political climate in Karnataka is tense as the state gears up for the upcoming legislative assembly elections.

The statement has sparked outrage and drawn widespread condemnation from Congress leaders. It remains to be seen what action will be taken against Yatnal for his controversial comments. The incident highlights the growing tensions between the two major political parties in the state, with both sides making aggressive statements in an attempt to garner support ahead of the elections.
