New Delhi, 22nd June 2023: The Congress leaders claimed that the central government’s first outreach across the political spectrum on clashes in Manipur was a “too little, too late” initiative. According to senior Congress politician K C Venugopal, the administration finally awoke after former party chairwoman Sonia Gandhi addressed the people of the strife-torn state.
This follows Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s call for an all-party meet on June 24 in New Delhi to discuss the situation in the state that has been marred by political conflict since May.
KC Venugopal also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the June 24 meeting because he will be in Egypt on a state visit. He claimed that his absence from such a serious meeting demonstrates his cowardice and unwillingness to face his failures.
He added that despite repeated delegations requesting talks with him, the Congress leader asserted that PM Modi refused chances for such discussions.
The Congress general secretary in charge of the Organisation emphasised that efforts to bring warring factions to the table would be ineffective if they were completed in Delhi.
