Current Infrastructure for Moving Petrol or Diesel could be used for selling Hydrogen: says, Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General, International Solar Alliance (ISA)

New Delhi; 05.04.2023: India is taking a significant step towards its ambitious plan of being a global leader in the production and use of green hydrogen. The National Green Hydrogen Mission has been working towards creating a clear vision for getting 25% of the domestic hydrogen requirement through green hydrogen by 2030. Addressing green hydrogen day as the guest of honour at India Energy Storage Week (IESW) 2023 , Director General, International Solar Alliance (ISA), Dr. Ajay Mathur, emphasised on the current infrastructure of Green hydrogen. “Hydrogen demand is on the rise in the transportation industry, with China leading the way in hydrogen-driven vehicles. The absence of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure remains a major hurdle. Nonetheless, hydrogen’s non-toxicity and ability to adapt to existing petrol or diesel infrastructure make it an essential component in the energy transition. As battery and hydrogen technologies take centre stage, their potential impact on the future of energy cannot be ignored.”

Commenting on the event, Dr Rahul Walawalkar, President of IESA, says, “From industrial decarbonization to transportation, every sector is ripe with opportunities! With a clear roadmap and evolving business cases, we can replicate success and avoid past deficits, achieving our goals in just five years. Speaking on the event, at IESW 2023, Abhay Bakre, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), says, “The change for the amendment to the Energy Conservation Act has empowered the government to launch the carbon trading scheme, which is a very important element for promoting green hydrogen in the country. It enables a lot of decarbonization potential and facilitates revenue through carbon trading, making it a prospective opportunity.”
