CWG 2022: Badminton stars PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen clinch gold medal for India

New Delhi, 8th August, 2022: On Monday, PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen made history by winning their first Commonwealth Games gold medals in badminton’s women’s and men’s singles finals at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. Sindhu’s victory gave her a hat trick of CWG medals. Meanwhile, Lakshya won gold in his first CWG appearance.

Sindhu defeated Michelle Li of Canada in straight games, 21-15, 21-13, and ended the match with a winning smash. Meanwhile, after losing the first game, Lakshya had to fight hard and stage a comeback. The Indian shuttler defeated Malaysian Ng Tze Yong 19-21 21-9 21-16 to win gold, and he also sealed his victory with a match-winning smash!

Sindhu started off strong, cruising to a 15-8 lead in Game 1. Sindhu won the first game 21-15, despite Li’s best efforts. In Game 2, the Canadian shuttler started aiming her shots at Sindhu’s body. Sindhu, on the other hand, had other ideas and raced to an 11-6 lead. Li attempted another comeback, but was defeated 13-21 in Game 2.

Lakshya started strong against Yong in Game 1, but lost 19-21. Laksya shifted the momentum in his favour in the second game, winning easily 21-9. In Game 3, Lakshya led 11-7 at the half and went on to win 21-16.
