New Delhi, 2nd August 2022: The women’s four lawn bowl event on Day 5 of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham saw India capture a historic gold. With a 17-10 victory over South Africa, the Indian team of Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia, and Rupa Rani excelled in the game. India made its first final appearance in the competition’s women’s fours version. It is the fourth gold for India and the first outside of the weightlifting competition.

One of India’s best medals in a multisport competition has to be this one. South Africa, one of the favorites and a major player in the sport, was defeated by India. The Indian team’s celebration demonstrated how much it meant to them. They have undoubtedly given the country a new sport.

India seized the lead 1-0 in the opening round, and the quartet seemed to believe they could succeed after that. India ruled South Africa despite the fact that they quickly established a 2-1 lead. India retook the lead and increased their margin to 8-2. South Africa desperately needed to come back, and they did so with flair, winning 10-8. One questioned whether South Africa would steal the gold.

However, this Indian squad never gave up during this competition, which allowed them to go to the final. They dealt a severe blow to New Zealand, which lost to India in the semifinals. While Roopa Rani Tirkey and Lovely Choubey hails from Ranchi, Jharkhand, Nayan Moni Saikia belongs to Golaghat district in Assam and Pinki is born and brought up in Delhi. All of them belong to middle class families.
