Datia Gang-Rape Case: BJP District Unit to Take Action against Party Functionary for being linked with case

Datia, Madhya Pradesh, July 16, 2023: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Datia district unit head has stated that appropriate action will be taken if the 19-year-old victim of a gang-rape incident names the son of a local party functionary as being involved in the crime during her police statement.

The harrowing incident took place in Datia district, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday afternoon when the woman was allegedly abducted and raped by four individuals. Subsequently, the victim attempted to end her life. Presently, the police have arrested one adult accused and detained two minors, while the search continues for another accused in the case, as confirmed by Unav police station in-charge Yadvendra Singh Gurjar on Sunday. A reward of Rs 10,000 has been announced for the absconding accused.

Notably, one of the accused held so far is the minor son of a local BJP functionary. The FIR registered in the case mentions his name.

BJP’s district president, Surendra Budholia, expressed his concern about the unfortunate incident and stated that the police are yet to record the victim’s statement. He further added that if the victim names the son of the BJP office-bearer in her statement, the party will serve a notice to the said functionary. Based on the statement, the party will take appropriate further action.

The victim’s younger sister filed the police complaint following the incident, narrating how she and her elder sister were abducted and taken to a house, where the accused raped the elder sister. After the ordeal, the victim tried to commit suicide and was later admitted to a hospital in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.

The accused have been booked under IPC sections 376 D (gangrape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 342 (wrongful confinement), and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
