Deepika Padukone graces Cover of Times Magazine as ‘Global Star’

Mumbai (India), 11th May 2023: The most recent “global star” to grace the cover of Time magazine is Deepika Padukone. With her work, she is being lauded for “introducing the world to Bollywood.” She was one of the 100 individuals recognised by the publication on their list of the 100 Most Influential in 2018.

In the interview that follows the cover, Deepika is referred to as “the most popular actress in the world’s most populous country.” She appears on the cover sporting an oversized beige suit and no shoes.

Deepika was also interviewed for the Times Magazine where she talks about the ‘continuous political backlash’ against her. She stated, “I don’t know if I’m supposed to feel something about it. But the truth is, I don’t feel anything about it.”

This is with reference to the backlash she received during the release of her greatest hits such as ‘Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’ as well as ‘Padmavat’. The most recent uproar was seen when Deepika wore an orange bikini in ‘Pathaan’ and was called anti-national for doing so. Right wing activists made baseless claims and gave outlandish statements just because of the colour of her clothes.

She also discussed her relationship with husband Ranveer Singh and also about India’s most recent performance at the Oscars, where she also participated as a presenter. She said, “I don’t think we should be happy with one Oscar for a song and one Oscar for a documentary…I hope we can look at this as the beginning of an opportunity.”

After a successful modelling career, Deepika Padukone made her Hindi cinema debut in 2007 with Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om, starring next to Shah Rukh Khan. In addition to these, she went on to star in popular films like Piku, Cocktail, Love Aaj Kal, “Padmaavat,” Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Housefull, Race 2, Tamasha, Chennai Express, and Bajirao Mastani and countless others.

Deepika’s next appearance will be in the forthcoming pan-Indian action movie Project K, with Prabhas. She will also star opposite Hrithik Roshan in Siddharth Anand’s upcoming action thriller movie Fighter.
